The new Godzilla is bigger.Way bigger.Early looks from the teaser, including a shot of him towering over the Statue of Liberty, suggest he's grown well past his Minus One height of around 164 feet, maybe pushing 340 to 400 feet this time around. Ryunosuke Kamiki returns as Koichi Shikishima, the kamikaze pilot who survived the first film's carnage, alongside Minami Hamabe as Noriko.Hidetaka Yoshioka, Yuki Yamada, Kuranosuke Sasaki and Sakura Ando are all back too, and Min Tanaka joins as a biologist named Kanji Murakami, a new character who might hold answers on how to stop the thing. Some fans think the flying debris in the teaser hints at a second kaiju, maybe King Ghidorah, though nobody's confirmed that.
Takashi Yamazaki writes, directs and runs VFX again, and after what he pulled off on a shoestring budget last time, this one's worth getting excited about.Godzilla Minus One made $116 million worldwide and became the first non English language film to win an Oscar for Best Visual Effects, so Yamazaki got a bigger budget this round and it shows.Godzilla Minus Zero opens in Japan on November 3, the anniversary of the original 1954 film, then hits North America on November 6 as the first Japanese production to get an IMAX release.
