Directed by H Vinoth, the film brings together Vijay, Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Prakash Raj,Gautham Vasudev Menon and Priyamani. The buildup is bigger than usual too, since Vijay is stepping away from lead acting roles to give politics his full attention afterward. In Canada, distributor York Cinemas gave VIP members a full 24 hours of exclusive access before public bookings opened, and that window even covers fans who'd bought tickets for an earlier, cancelled release and were still waiting on refunds, and in the UK, distributor Ahimsa Entertainment put tickets on sale through Cineworld, where thousands sold out inside an hour, with the distributor calling online reaction on social media absolutely insane. That kind of demand puts Jana Nayagan on track to challenge the UK opening set by Vijay's own Leo a few years back.Jana Nayagan got its CBFC certification on July 11 with an A rating, after a small edit that actually added 41 seconds to the runtime, bringing the final cut to 3 hours,3 minutes and 52 seconds. Producers at KVN Productions confirmed the certification themselves, telling fans on social media they'd see them soon in theatres.
The film opens in India on July 23, a day ahead of its July 24 release everywhere else, and that one day gap alone has fans arguing online over who gets to see Vijay's last lead role first. It's honestly wild that a movie can sell out thousands of UK seats in under sixty minutes before a single review has even landed. Distributors are already eyeing bigger numbers out of Malaysia, Australia and North America once bookings open there too.
