Gilroy hasn't directed a movie in fourteen years, not since "The Bourne Legacy" back in 2012. He's better known lately for creating "Andor," and before that for writing films like "Michael Clayton" and "Rogue One."This one is different. He told The Playlist that Pascal is taking center stage for the first time in his whole career, calling it his moment, and Gilroy admitted something a little raw about the project too, saying he'd never actually directed a film about a subject he loved before this one.He spent a year interviewing real studio musicians while writing it, which probably explains why the details feel so specific.
The cast around Pascal is stacked. Hank Azaria plays his father,Will Arnett plays his brother after stepping in for David Harbour, who dropped out earlier this year.Eva Victor plays a fellow cellist he falls for while working in Dallas, and Olivia Wilde plays his ex with, as one report put it, an axe to grind.Nine real film composers contributed music to the soundtrack, including Michael Giacchino and Alan Silvestri, which is a pretty wild lineup for one movie.Searchlight has set a December 4 release date in the United States, aiming it straight at awards season.
