Worth saying out loud: this was always going to happen. Unlimited anything in telecom never stays unlimited forever.
The reason being floated is that unlimited 5G data is putting serious pressure on network resources, with heavy users consuming far more than the operators planned for when they priced these plans. Fixed data monthly packs would let companies manage traffic better and, not coincidentally, charge more once users cross their limits. Jio kicked off India's 5G rollout with truly unlimited high speed data as a selling point, and Airtel and Vi followed to stay competitive. That race to the bottom on pricing is apparently what's now pushing all three to the same table to rethink the model.
Nothing's been confirmed yet, no official announcement from Jio, Airtel, or Vi has come through as of now. But the fact that all three are reportedly having the same conversation at the same time tells you something. These things don't usually leak unless they're close to becoming real. Indian 5G subscribers have been getting unlimited high speed data since the rollout began, and if fixed monthly packs replace that, bill calculations are going to change for millions of users fast.
