Vijay has officially set July 23 as the release date for Jana Nayagan, and the new poster shows him in a police uniform standing against smoke shaped like the number 23.
The actor turned Tamil Nadu Chief Minister shared the poster himself on Instagram, writing the caption JanaNayaganFromJuly23.It's a big deal because this film has been stuck in limbo for months.Jana Nayagan was supposed to hit screens on Pongal, January 9,but the CBFC held back certification over scenes it felt could hurt religious sentiments. Lawyers got involved after that. A single judge on the High Court ordered the CBFC to give it a U slash A 16 plus certificate, and that gave the makers some hope. Then the CBFC pushed back, took it to a division bench, and got that order stayed. The producers even went to the Supreme Court asking for urgent relief. Messy fight, honestly, for a film everyone just wants to watch. The film has now cleared certification with an A rating after the makers agreed to 12 changes suggested by the board.
The poster itself carries something new too. The promotional material now refers to Vijay as The Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu C Joseph Vijay, which is the first time the production has used his political title in the film's own marketing. Directed by H Vinoth, Jana Nayagan is the official remake of the Telugu hit Bhagavanth Kesari and brings together Mamitha Baiju, Pooja Hegde, Prakash Raj, Bobby Deol, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Priyamani and Narain. Anirudh Ravichander has done the music, and this is widely seen as Vijay's last film before he goes all in on politics.
