Vijay took the oath as Chief Minister back on May 9,and since then, the film's promotion has barely looked like the massive campaigns his earlier releases used to get. Narayana, who heads KVN Productions, told reporters that Vijay's political duties come before any publicity push, and that the makers aren't expecting him to show up at press meets or fan events the way he once did. Sources close to the production say Vijay set one condition early on himself, that the release must never clash with or pull focus away from his ongoing political work in the state. The film's title itself translates to People's Leader, and industry watchers have pointed out how closely that lines up with his new role, and the film itself was supposed to release on January 9, but got stuck for months after the Central Board of Film Certification raised objections, some of it reportedly tied to political content and a muted reference to Vijay's own party. It's a strange spot for a farewell film to be in, hyped for years, yet arriving almost quietly.
Jana Nayagan, after months of an uncertain release calendar,is set to open worldwide on July 23, with an A certificate and a runtime of just over three hours. Directed by H Vinoth, the film stars Pooja Hegde,Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj and Priyamani, and carries a budget somewhere between three hundred and five hundred crore rupees.KVN Productions, making its first Tamil film with this project, has handed global distribution to Phars Film. And advance bookings for the film have already opened in several overseas markets, including Canada and the UK.
