Villupuram's office bearers handed out free tickets to anyone who walked up, no questions asked.A chariot like vehicle rolled through a town near the city to welcome the film, and one fan painted his car with giant images of Vijay's face for the occasion. Plenty of supporters showed up in "Thangamey Thalapathy" T shirts too, and the same milk abhishekam ritual that played out in Chennai repeated itself at smaller theatres in the districts. And the fireworks from Chennai made their way into the districts too, right on schedule. Somewhere in all that noise though, a few fans were quietly annoyed about ticket prices climbing overnight, and the mood over the rate hike wasn't exactly festive, with a video of an argument over it doing the rounds on social media. Party general secretary and minister N Anand had told local units weeks earlier to decorate theatres and make the release feel like a public festival, and cadres across districts stuck to that almost to the letter.
Vijay watched a special screening on Wednesday evening,his rumoured girlfriend Trisha Krishnan reportedly catching the first public show too,and all this after the film spent months stuck in a legal fight with the Central Board of Film Certification over its use of armed forces symbols before the Madras High Court cleared the way for release.
