Her agent,Phil Belfield, said it was with much sadness that he shared the news, and that Fricker died last night after being unwell for some time.He called her one of a kind, adding that the world feels smaller without her in it. Fricker's career ran across six decades, and outside My Left Foot, she's probably best remembered for playing the pigeon lady in Home Alone 2,Lost in New York, a role that made her a face kids around the world knew without knowing her name. She also spent years on the BBC medical drama Casualty as nurse Megan Roach, and had roles in The Field, Veronica Guerin,A Time to Kill and Angels in the Outfield.
Born in Dublin in February 1945, Fricker trained briefly as a journalist before landing work at the Gate Theatre, and that's a detail people forget when they only think of her as a Hollywood name. She was married to Barry Davis from 1979 to 1988,and had spoken in recent years about losing six pregnancies during that time. Last year, she published a memoir called She Died Young,A Life in Fragments, where she wrote candidly about depression, alcoholism and abuse she faced early in life.Fricker had also appeared in the film The Swallow last year, a role that got her praise not long before her death.
