Sesh, the actor and writer behind Major and the recent Dacoit: A Love Story,made the point this week while talking about how the industry still sorts movies into Hindi, Telugu or Tamil buckets, then slaps a separate pan India label on whatever crosses over. He thinks that's backwards. The Hyderabad born actor picked up a Nandi Award and the first ever Gaddar Award for his role in Major, and he's been writing his own scripts since Kshanam came out back in 2016. Dacoit was shot at the same time in both Hindi and Telugu before getting dubbed into other languages for the rest of the country,and Major did the same kind of crossing over a few years back. The trend isn't exactly new either, since films like RRR and Pushpa: The Rise already proved Hindi audiences would show up for Telugu stories given the chance, and Sesh himself put it simply:Language should be a medium of expression, not a limitation. He reckons audiences already moved past these labels, watching Korean dramas and Spanish thrillers without blinking, and it's the industry that hasn't caught up yet.
Sesh will be seen next in G2, a spy action thriller that brings back his old Goodachari character from the 2018 original,this time under first time director Vinay Kumar Sirigineedi,and Emraan Hashmi, Wamiqa Gabbi and Madhu Shalini round out the cast. Honestly, Dacoit already proved his point loud and clear,since it ran as both a Hindi and Telugu film from day one and still pulled crowds either way in both markets. G2 hits screens sometime this year.
