Jana Nayagan is back in front of the censor board, and this time it's not about cuts. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay's last film, which finally got its A certificate on July 9 after a seven month wait, is now headed back to the Central Board of Film Certification with fresh footage added in.The makers want the opening title card changed.Instead of flashing "Thalapathy," the moniker fans have used for Vijay for decades, the screen will now introduce him as the "Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu." That's a big shift for a film that started out as a straight up political action thriller and is ending up something closer to a farewell speech. KVN Productions is applying under what's called Rule 33, which lets a film go back for review after changes are made post certification. And nobody saw this coming quite like this, honestly, a movie about winning power now has to catch up to the fact that its own hero actually won it.

The song sequences and the farewell audio launch clips are also getting touched up to match Vijay's new political standing, sources close to the production said. Directed by H Vinoth, the film stars Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, and Mamitha Baiju, with Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Narain and Priyamani rounding out the cast. It runs 183 minutes and 11 seconds, per the CBFC's own records. The first certification round wasn't easy either. Twelve separate changes got ordered, including muted references to Vijay's party TVK, a deleted shot of the national flag falling to the ground, and edits to a scene involving a child.

Jana Nayagan is still set for a worldwide release on July 24,and distributors in the UK have already promised an uncut version there, carrying a 15 rating.Around a thousand theatres across Tamil Nadu alone are expected to screen it from opening day, according to industry sources. The film was originally supposed to arrive back in January for Pongal. It got delayed by court battles that reached the Supreme Court, then by a massive piracy leak in April that saw a pirated copy watched roughly 1.2 crore times before it got taken down. Police later arrested a freelance editor over that leak.
