Dhanush isn't staying quiet about the backlash over his National Award win for Raayan. The actor director bagged the Best Tamil Film honour at the 72nd National Film Awards, and he also picked up a Special Mention for Best Actor for Captain Miller. That's two nods in one ceremony, and a lot of people online weren't happy about it.Social media lit up with critics and fans arguing that films like Meiyazhagan,Maharaja or Amaran deserved the top prize more than Raayan did.Dhanush finally broke his silence on it, and what he said wasn't a simple denial.

He actually agreed with part of the criticism. Dhanush admitted that Meiyazhagan and Maharaja were, in his own words, better films than Raayan last year. That's not something most actors would say out loud. But then he flipped the argument. He brought up his older films, Pudhupettai, Vada Chennai, Karnan,Maryan and Raanjhanaa, and said none of them got the same kind of loud support when they missed out on awards they arguably deserved.Nobody made noise then. It's a fair point, even if it stings a little to hear an actor defend himself this way.

His exact words were sharp. Nearly 90 percent of people are opposing my National Award now, he said, but when his films truly deserved recognition in the past, not even 10 percent spoke up for them. That's the same detail worth repeating, really, the gap between how loud people get over a win they dislike versus how quiet they stay over a loss they should've fought. The controversy hasn't died down though.Director H. Vinoth, who was asked about the same Raayan debate, said awards depend on a small committee and filmmakers need to follow up properly to make sure jury members actually watch their films. Whether that satisfies Dhanush's critics is another matter entirely.
