Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey just posted a strong second day at the Indian box office, and the jump from Friday to Saturday tells its own story. The film crossed Rs 39 crore in India by the end of day two, riding a jump of around 26 percent over its opening numbers.

Day one alone brought in close to Rs 19.5 crore, already the biggest opening day ever for a non franchise Hollywood release in the country, beating out Oppenheimer's earlier record. That's not a small thing to top. IMAX numbers alone crossed Rs 5 crore on opening day, another record for the format in India. And growth on Saturday came mostly from standard format shows, since IMAX and other premium formats were already running close to full capacity from day one. Nolan's name alone seems to be doing a lot of the heavy lifting here, and honestly, that's rare for a film that isn't part of some existing franchise.

The Odyssey stars Matt Damon as Odysseus, with Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron and Lupita Nyong'o rounding out a packed ensemble. It's Nolan's first project since Oppenheimer, and the buzz started early, with IMAX shows in cities like Melbourne and London selling out nearly a year before release. Universal Pictures spent around 250 million dollars on the film, shot largely on IMAX cameras across multiple countries. Trade watchers are now eyeing a weekend total that could push past Rs 70 crore in India alone.
