Instagram has just rolled out a feature that users have been requesting for years, and it is finally here—the ability to reorder your grid without deleting a single post. The Meta-owned platform confirmed the update, which allows users to long press on any post in their profile grid, tap the newly added "Reorder grid" option, and simply drag posts to a new position. It sounds simple, but for millions of creators, influencers, and everyday users obsessed with a clean, aesthetic profile, this is a genuinely big deal.
For as long as Instagram has existed, the grid has followed one unbreakable rule: posts appear in the order they were uploaded, with the newest content always at the top. There were no exceptions to this chronological sequence, and it created a real headache for anyone who cared about how their profile looked as a whole. If you wanted a themed or color-coordinated grid, you had to plan your uploads months in advance, sticking to a rigid content calendar just to keep the visual flow intact. The alternative was even more painful—deleting older posts and reposting them in a better sequence, which meant losing likes, comments, view counts, and sometimes years of engagement history built up on that content.
With this update, that trade-off disappears entirely. Users can now rearrange their grid freely, moving a post from the bottom to the top, or shuffling multiple posts around, all without touching their likes or comment threads. This is particularly significant for content creators, influencers, and small businesses that use Instagram as a portfolio or storefront. A brand might want to showcase its best-performing or most visually appealing content at the top of the grid regardless of when it was posted, and now they can do exactly that with just a few taps.
There is one exception built into the new system: pinned posts. Instagram already allows users to pin up to three posts to the very top of their profile, and those pinned posts remain locked in place even with the new reordering tool. Everything below the pinned section, however, is fully movable, giving users a hybrid layout where their top picks stay fixed while the rest of the grid can be curated at will.
Another point worth noting is speed. Once a user saves their new arrangement, the changes reflect instantly for every single visitor to that profile, whether they are a follower or someone stumbling upon the account for the first time. There is no delay, no processing time, and no need to refresh the app repeatedly to see the update take effect.
This move fits into Instagram's broader pattern of listening to long-standing user demands, especially from its creator community, which has often turned to third-party workarounds or painstaking manual planning just to keep profiles looking polished. With grid reordering now built directly into the app, Instagram users in India and around the world can finally give their profiles a makeover without sacrificing the engagement they have worked hard to build.
