The Critics Choice Association put out the nominations list on July 15,and Chopra's name showed up right next to Pamela Anderson, nominated for The Naked Gun, and Charlize Theron, nominated for Apex. Eiza González got a nod for Mike and Nick and Nick and Alice.Akari Takaishi made the list for Ghost Killer, along with Samara Weaving for Over Your Dead Body and Maddie Ziegler for Pretty Lethal. Seven names, one trophy.It's Chopra's second big nod of the year, and honestly,it's about time.She landed an Emmy nomination for Heads of State just weeks before this one came through, which says something about the kind of year she's having,and the winners in her category won't be known for a while yet. The full list stretches across action, horror, superhero and sci fi categories, but it's the action actress race that's got people talking this week. Superman led the whole field this year though, picking up six nominations total, including one for Best Superhero Movie, and three separate nods in the Best Actor in a Superhero Movie category for David Corenswet, Edi Gathegi and Nicholas Hoult.
Winners get announced on August 6, through a press release rather than a live ceremony this time around. That's still three weeks off,and for Chopra, who's been chasing this kind of recognition in Hollywood for years now, the wait probably feels longer than it sounds. The Bluff marks one of her biggest full on action roles yet, and it clearly didn't slip past the critics this time.
