If July 23 does happen, fans in India get a four day opening weekend before the regular work week kicks back in. That's no small thing for a film this size. Directed by H Vinoth, Jana Nayagan brings together Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Prakash Raj, Priyamani, Mamitha Baiju and Gautham Vasudev Menon, with music from Anirudh Ravichander. And the film has had a rough road getting here. It was originally supposed to come out during Pongal in January, then got tangled up in a legal fight over its certification, then leaked online in April before the makers scrambled to get it pulled from pirated sites.
There's another date floating around too, one that touches Vijay's family directly. His son Jason is making his own directorial debut with a film called Sigma, and that's currently pointed at July 31. Earlier reports had actually worried the two films might land on the very same day, father and son competing for the same weekend audience. That doesn't look likely anymore, going by the current spacing between the two release windows. The film has now cleared the Central Board of Film Certification with an A rating, closing out months of uncertainty.
