Bokadia isn't new to working with any of them. He directed Bachchan in Aaj Ka Arjun back in 1990,his very first film as a director,and later reunited with him for Lal Baadshah. Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan shared screen space under his production in Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam in 2002, alongside Madhuri Dixit.That's not a small resume,most of his peers from that era only get remembered in obituaries these days,and it's the kind of history that lets a filmmaker say something like that without it sounding like wishful thinking. Bokadia also made it clear he's never leaned on controversy to sell a film, even though Teesri Begum itself went through a real legal fight before its release. The Bombay High Court got involved after the censor board objected to a line involving Jai Shri Ram,and the matter only got settled once some changes were agreed upon.
Teesri Begum first hit theatres on May 22 this year.Two days from now, it heads to the Waves platform, where it will stream for free. And the film follows a woman who discovers she's been deceived into a marriage where she's not the only wife, leaning hard into themes of self respect and women standing up for each other. Bokadia has spent most of this promotional run talking about trust, the kind stars used to place in directors decades ago, more than talking about drama.
